Biography
Amber is from the Bulbancha/New Orleans area and currently serves as Sr. Administrative Program Coordinator for Learning Design & Development, in which they help design and edit courses that go through the SoPA Course Development Workshop and assist faculty with issues in their online courses.
During graduate school, Amber taught English writing to non-native adult speakers and served as a tutor at the University of Alabama Writing Center. After a brief, strange stint in the corporate world, Amber joined SoPA in 2017, initially serving as an assistant to the program directors.
In their spare time, Amber enjoys doing freelance audio transcription and copyediting work, writing, painting, exploring the swamps, and documenting rural, old, and/or derelict cemeteries. They currently reside in Metairie with their husband, toddler, and two cats.
What's the first career your dreamed of have as a child?
When I was young, I dreamed of being a writer. I started writing poetry when I was about 7 years old. Later, I wrote short stories. When I was about 10, I distinctly remember writing and illustrating a story about a teddy bear being lost in the woods. For some reason, it also had a sequel.
What are your favorite activities when you are not working?
I listen to music (basically any type of rock) and podcasts (true crime). I also like going to the gym, being out in nature, trying new restaurants, and hanging out with other people’s dogs.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
If I could do it with the guarantee of at least a Star Trek: The Next Generation level of technology, I'd go to space. Since that's highly unlikely, my second choice is either Japan or Ireland.
