Biography
Andres Calderon, MSc CE, MSc ISDS, MBA, Grad Cert Math, BS EE, CPHIE, COBIT, CDPSE, and ITIL has taught masters level courses in Analytics and Information Technology courses throughout his career.
Andres has over 30 years of strategic and information technology industry experience. He currently works full-time at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana where he is the Director of IT Service Management, Disaster Recovery, and Identity and Access Management.
Andres has in-depth experience in aligning analytics and technology to corporate vision and extensive background in business development, product design, system architectures, and decision support system implementations. He served as research advisor to the European Union in crisis management and has conducted executive level presentations to Chairman of Homeland Security Committee, Representative Bennie Thompson, Honduran President, Porfirio Lobo Sosa, and staff on country risk and security trends and to the President of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernández.
Andres was the Associate Director of the Stephenson Disaster Management Institute (SDMI) at Louisiana State University and A&M College (LSU) where he contributed to the strategic planning and portfolio of projects and served as the principal investigator on signature projects of the institute such as: FEMA BCM voluntary Private Sector Preparedness Program (PS-Prep), Louisiana Business Emergency Operations Center, Louisiana Command College, and the SDMI’s Cybersecurity Program. Andres is instructor of the Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) capstone course under the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems in the E. J. Ourso College of Business at LSU.
Andres led the development of scientific methodologies and computer-based models used by the U.S. Army and FEMA for risk quantification and response to the threat of chemical weapons, a program sponsored by the U.S. Army Soldier and Biological Chemical Command (SBCCOM). Calderon has expertise in multi-jurisdictional planning and the coordination of emergency management operations.
As former Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Executive Vice President of First Responder Systems and Technology, Andres established the strategic direction of the company’s first responder technology offerings and identified the role that specific technologies play in the growth and path of future products. Andres was responsible for many of the business development efforts of the company and was a frequent speaker on industry trends and company products to government officials and potential customers. He was responsible for the technical selection, negotiation, and sale of the company’s multi-million dollar technology that served as an exit path for the investors of the company.
Andres is a graduate of LSU where he received both his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Computer Engineering (1991, 1996) as well as his Master of Science degree in Information Systems and Decision Sciences (1999). As a recipient of the LSU and University of Heidelberg Scholarship, Calderon conducted postgraduate research and post graduate studies in applied mathematics at the Ruprecht Karl Universität, Heidelberg, Germany (1993). Andres also has a Master of Business Administration from Tulane University, A. B. Freeman College of Business, where he graduated with honors as the sole recipient of the Vorholt Leadership Award of the class of 2001.
