Biography
April Overman is a career law enforcement officer who retired at the rank of police captain after 25 years of service. After retiring, she served as interim director of the Southern Regional Public Safety Institute, as the Regional Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) coordinator for the southern region of Mississippi, and as a Visiting Assistant Professor for the University of Southern Mississippi. Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in urban studies (University of New Orleans), an M.A. in sociology (Tulane University), graduate work in public administration (University of New Orleans), a J.D. (Tulane Law School), and a B.A. in history (Newcomb College). She is an attorney member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and has served as a professional law enforcement instructor throughout the states of Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi. She holds numerous certifications in multiple law enforcement and emergency response areas of expertise. She received numerous awards and proclamations during her law enforcement career from the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana for exemplary service. In 2008, she was named a Top Ten Female Achiever by New Orleans Magazine.
