Biography

Cooper grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and earned degrees in English Literature at the University of Cincinnati, East Asian Languages and Cultures from the University of Illinois, and a PhD in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas.  In between he worked in the Cincinnati Public Schools, studied Chinese in China, and taught at the University of Illinois, the University of Kansas, and Shanghai International Studies University.  Cooper and his family moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 2014, where Cooper earned tenure specializing in Intercultural Communication, at Marian University.  Cooper teaches Disaster Communication at Tulane University, in the School of Professional Advancement (SoPA).

Cooper is a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) and has extensive experience using the IDI to develop intercultural competence.

Cooper lives with his wife Daisy, and their two children in Oshkosh. Besides teaching and consulting, he is always happy to get outdoors, talk about native plants, or enjoy music.
