Biography
E. Anne Gunn has spent her entire working career in the software industry, first in business and
technical roles, now in teaching. In 1990, she was one of the founders of Tally Systems, a
bootstrap-funded software company. Tally was a pioneer in developing software to help
corporations manage and maintain personal computing assets. Anne was on the board of Tally
from its founding until 2005 when the company was acquired by Novell.
At Tally, Anne wore many hats, including sales, technical support, quality assurance, product
management, and people management. Eventually she promoted herself from Senior VP of
Product Management to entry-level software developer in order to have more options for where
to live and work. After leaving Tally, she worked remotely as a software developer on a large
variety of custom software projects.
In recent years, Anne has become more and more active in efforts to train the next generation of
coders: software developers, scientists, and business analysts. In August, 2017, she joined the
faculty of Northern Wyoming Community College District with a unique appointment that
includes teaching at NWCCD, mentoring students and teachers in local high schools, and
working on curriculum development with classroom teachers in Sheridan and Johnson County.
Anne was born in Lander, Wyoming, and grew up in Helena, Montana. In 1978, she earned an
AB degree in mathematics (Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude) from Dartmouth College,
Hanover, New Hampshire. She lived in New Hampshire and Vermont for 20 years before
returning to the West in 1999.
Now Anne lives in and works from Sheridan, Wyoming. She gets out to bike, cross-country ski,
hike, and paddle as often as she can. She is dedicated to living up to one of Sheridan’s informal
mottos: You no longer have to choose between living in a world-class place and doing
world-class work.
