Joey LaRoche

Joey LaRoche served as the Chief Strategy Officer for KIPP New Orleans Schools where he led a variety of the network’s initiatives in talent, external affairs, staff engagement, school leader management, and school operations. He coaches school leaders and executives in education, government, and the nonprofit and private sectors in Louisiana, Washington D.C., and Chicago. He led KIPP Renaissance High School (name since restored to Frederick Douglass HS) in New Orleans to be the first A-rated open-enrollment school in post-Katrina New Orleans and was the 2017 Louisiana State High School Principal of the Year. Under Mr. LaRoche’s leadership of KIPP Renaissance, students earned the honors of America’s Best High Schools from The Washington Post and Best High Schools ranking in U.S. News & World Report between 2015-2017.  In 2015, KIPP Renaissance became the highest rated open-enrollment high school in New Orleans and was the highest-growing school in Louisiana. Mr. LaRoche was previously a TNTP Site Manager and Recovery School District Chief of Staff for Achievement & Human Capital, leading two teams: one managing the district’s 12 New Orleans schools and the other overseeing strategy and operations of the human capital team. As a consultant, he supported the district with rubric creation, planning and program implementation, and analysis of their new evaluation system.  Mr. LaRoche and his team also worked to systematize and enhance district hiring practices to best meet the needs of students. While his work has largely focused on policy and educational leadership, his eye is always on creating the ecosystem within organizations to make meaningful learning for kids happen most efficiently. Mr. LaRoche is an alumni of McMain Secondary School, a New Orleans public school, and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
