Biography
Michael Brown is an adjunct faculty member at the Tulane University School of Professional Advancement Information Technology Program. Michael is employed full-time as the Field Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Financial Services at Fortinet, Inc. where he serves as a senior level strategic business and technical advisor. He brings more than 20 years of experience transforming financial services firms digitally. Michael brings a deep understanding of the business needs and technology, while balancing security and regulatory impact to help organizations create revenue from their digital transformation and efficiencies. He believes that technology and cybersecurity are critical to all business endeavors.
Prior to joining Fortinet, Michael held engineering, business development, and leadership positions at some of the largest global financial services firms including Bank of New York, Nomura, and Royal Bank of Scotland. Before this, Michael was a software engineer with a focus on low-latency electronic trading and his career spanned across equities, futures, and fixed income. He began his career as a C++ programmer at IBM with a focus on network programming. Michael is also a veteran and served in the United States Navy.
Michael is a frequent speaker at financial services industry events and advisor to numerous industry organizations. He is on the NIST K12 Cybersecurity working group for cybersecurity education and is active in the veteran community as a mentor with VetsinTech and Team Rubicon. Michael holds master’s degrees in telecommunications from Pace University and cybersecurity from Georgia Tech.
