Biography
Nicholas Barrett is a strategic marketing executive, consultant, and advisor whose motto is “lead with results - stay true with passion.” He has over 20 years of experience leading growth strategy, asset management, loyalty marketing, customer experience, branding, and placemaking across commercial real estate, membership-based businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
Nick currently leads CANNES | Global Consulting, a boutique firm focused on customer strategy, destination marketing, and commercial transformation. His clients include US and Middle Eastern shopping center operators, hospitality firms, and international companies entering the U.S. market. His recent work has included repositioning retail assets, introducing customer data strategies, and guiding the implementation of new digital and operational platforms for enhanced performance and compliance.
Previously, Nick served as Vice President of Marketing (Commercial Planning, Customer Experience & Loyalty) at Tanger, Inc., where he led national strategies for sales growth, shopper engagement, loyalty marketing, customer service, and center experience across a $5 billion retail sales platform. Prior to that, he held senior leadership roles at Simon Property Group and served as Director of Admissions & Director of Alumni Relations & Annual Giving at Holy Cross School in New Orleans.
Throughout his career, Nick has developed and executed strategies that grow revenue, improve customer lifetime value, enhance stakeholder engagement, and drive performance across both for-profit and nonprofit sectors. He is known for blending data-driven decision-making with strong emotional intelligence and creative storytelling.
Nick has served on Mid-Atlantic region boards of CVBs, Chambers of Commerce, and the Alzheimer’s Association. He was Vice Chair of Arts Council of Greater Greensboro and a Diversity & Inclusion Council Co-Chair at Tanger, Inc. He has also been recognized and received awards for his leadership in new department/vertical creation, corporate training programs, and team building. In 2025, he joined the Advisory Committee for the SCMM Conference in Istanbul, focused on reimagining the future of retail in the road for 2030.
A native of New Orleans, Nick is married to Alyce, and they have two children, Nicholas II and Chloe. He splits his time between Greensboro, NC and New Orleans, LA, where he remains actively involved in civic, cultural, and academic life.
What are your favorite activities when you are not working?
Spending time with family, walking the French Quarter, horology, studying macro trends, exploring cities on foot, gumbo sampling, immersing in movie soundtracks, and studying American history.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Hope is not a strategy.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I’d love to return to the Mediterranean coast for a few months —living like a local, working remotely, and drawing inspiration from the sea, architecture, markets, and conversations.
